How it started: |
International Homeroom started out as an inspiration of the founding Chairperson, Sharif Bhuiyan, in the winter of 2007. After doing many small privately funding charity work he wanted to start an organization that combines his passion for education and willingness to help others that sparked the idea of helping children receive a well supported primary education. He wanted to help children in areas where children’s education is not seen as important to a child’s life and also in regions where the local government hasn’t financially supported the educational institutions.
All of us in this organization, believed that every child should at least be able to read and write their own name. We don't just want to help just one group, race, ethnic or nationality; we wanted to help all the forgotten children of the world. The name of the organization was actually suggested to our founder, by a fellow co-worker at the New York City Medical Examiner Office. International Homeroom is a place where all children will be seen as equal regardless of their background. Sharif Bhuiyan initially wanted to do as a private foundation but after speaking to his mother and brother about his idea; they suggested on bringing the help of his many talented friends. So after speaking to a few friends Sharif saw that they too shared his dream.
In September of the follow year, the first official meeting to place at our founder's private home, where they discuss how this new organization would seek to help out. That night, the Board of Directors and By-Laws were created. Since then International Homeroom set out with its goals, to help those forgotten children around the world to receive their natural right of being educated and making a positive changes in their lives.
I.H. Future |
Still in its infancy International Homeroom has started to do fundraisers and collect donations. The Board of Directs has selected a country that will receive the initial help from International Homeroom. It is one of the world poorest and among the highest illiterate country in the world. All 6 Board of Director happened to be born there too. The first country that will receive support from International Homeroom is Bangladesh. They believe it’s the best place to start since it’s a familiar area and they want to show children there, that with education you can make it.
Along with members, there are few volunteers who are part of the organization. Each member and volunteer brings their unique talent to bring hope to children across the world. Together the organization is striving to help children the world as has forgotten about.
I.H. Today |
In the future, International Homeroom hopes to continue playing an important role in the development of educational institutions around the world. Below is our list of goals:
• By the end of 2010 we anticipate to achieve the goal of helping to fund for the resources needed in 10 different institutions in 10 different districts of Bangladesh.
• Beyond 2010 we hope to move on to a different country. The country will be decided on by the Board of Director at that time.
• We will continue to grow and evolve with the growing needs of children. We will help nurture and help build a young child mind, and in do so, hope that the child’s life has transformed into something better.
